Sky Sports Helmet Wrap

BRANDING

THE BRIEF

Sky Sports needed a set of branded helmets to promote its Formula One coverage, built to work as visual assets across photography and social content. The brief called for bold Sky Sports branding wrapped across the helmet surface, applied with as little distortion as possible and durable enough to hold up over time with no lifting at the edges.

THE PROCESS

Colour was the first hurdle. A solid print of the Sky Sports blue was tested but lacked impact, so the team switched to a metallic blue base instead, giving the colour more depth on camera.

The helmet shape brought its own challenges. Tight compound curves and limited flat areas meant the large lettering had to be mapped carefully across the surface to stay legible once installed. Joins were strategically places to keep the finish clean, while staying within the films limitations and avoiding any colour distortion.

Getting the graphics to sit correctly took precise placement, calculated pre-stretch techniques and considered joins throughout.

THE RESULT

A consistent, distortion-free finish with no risk of failure, and Sky Sports branding clearly legible across the curved surface, proportions intact despite the shape. The helmets went straight into the campaign's launch content on Instagram.
