Colour was the first hurdle. A solid print of the Sky Sports blue was tested but lacked impact, so the team switched to a metallic blue base instead, giving the colour more depth on camera.
The helmet shape brought its own challenges. Tight compound curves and limited flat areas meant the large lettering had to be mapped carefully across the surface to stay legible once installed. Joins were strategically places to keep the finish clean, while staying within the films limitations and avoiding any colour distortion.
Getting the graphics to sit correctly took precise placement, calculated pre-stretch techniques and considered joins throughout.
